Chinese and European Business Leaders to Convene at the China Europe Business Meeting in Geneva
7 November 2005 - Geneva

Horasis released today details on the China Europe Business Meeting which will be held in Geneva on 15 November. The China Europe Business Meeting is the foremost annual gathering of Chinese business and political leaders and their counterparts from Europe. The meeting is the product of a unique partnership between Horasis, the Geneva Economic Development Office and the China Federation of Industrial Economics. The event is intellectually supported by a set of knowledge partners.

‘The China Europe Business Meeting is an unparalleled platform for potential cooperation between Chinese and European firms. This deliberately small, off-the-record event of interactive roundtables will bring together some 150 senior executives and political leaders from China and Europe. The roundtables will be conducted in a highly interactive manner aimed at promoting business opportunities among participants', said Frank-Jürgen Richter , President, Horasis.

The co-chairs of the Roundtable are:

  • Fu Chengyu , CEO, China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC), China
  • Guo Wei , CEO, Digital China, China
  • Vincent H.S. Lo , Chairman, Shui On Group, Hong Kong SAR
  • Armin Meyer , Chairman and CEO, Ciba Speciality Chemicals, Switzerland
  • Zhang Yue , Chairman, Broad Air Conditioning, China
  • Zhao Xizheng , Chairman, China Electricity Council, China

Other prominent figures who have confirmed their participation are:

  • Martine Brunschwig Graf , President, State of Geneva, Switzerland
  • Christine Lagarde , Minister of Foreign Trade, France

‘Geneva is proud to host the China Europe Business Meeting. As one of the world's most vibrant and competitive cities, Geneva is the appropriate place to strategise on ensuring that Chinese corporations reach their potential as truly global players', said Carlo Lamprecht , Minister of Economy, State of Geneva.

Xu Kuangdi , Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), President of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chairman of China Federation of Industrial Economics said: ‘I am very delighted that, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relationships between China and Europe, the China Europe Business Meeting is being held in the beautiful city of Geneva. I hope that this meeting will make new contributions for further promoting Sino-European trade'.

The meeting is a vehicle for Chinese firms to scout business opportunities in Europe and to develop into Multinational Corporations.
